By the end of the Turkish rule the original inhabitants perished, but later Serb and ethnic German people settled here. Until 1946 almost 85% of the inhabitants were of German origin. Nowadays Hungarians and Swabians live there. \nA famous tradition in Szigetbecse is its annual Easter \u201cegg run,\u201d held on Easter Sunday at 5:00 pm on Pet\u0151fi S. street. Tourism in Szigetbecse mainly revolves around vacationers and fishermen. There is a 9 km long resort by the R\u00e1ckeve Danube branch that includes 640 holiday houses.
\nThe village is not located directly on the bank of the Danube because of the risk of flooding.\u00a0 Instead, Szigetbecse is about 600-1000 metres inland from the Danube, separated by fields, meadows, smaller reeds and forests. This makes this region especially beautiful.<\/p>\n
