Szigetcs\u00e9p<\/span><\/h3>\n

The village is in the middle of Csepel Island, about 30 km from Budapest. It can be reached by the suburban train between Budapest and R\u00e1ckeve or by car on the 5101 road or by bus from Csepel to Mak\u00e1d.<\/p>\n

Stone axes, grinders, snapped stone blade, arrows and the remnants of a fireplace were found here. These items certainly provide evidence that this region has been occupied for a long time. Roman money was also found here from the 2-3rd century.\u00a0 The first document mentioning the village is from 1238 with the name of Cs\u00e9ptelek. The Serbs living here built their own Serbian Orthodox church in 1736. The Catholic Germans built their church in 1755. The Catholic parsonage was built a hundred years afterwards.
\nAt the time of the census ordered by King J\u00f3zsef II, M\u00e1ria Ter\u00e9zia’s daughter, Princess Krisztina owned the land. At the turn of the 20th century Szigetcs\u00e9p was a part of R\u00e1ckeve estate.
