Délegyháza

The village of Délegyháza is 27 km to the south of Budapest by the Kelebia railway and 6 km from the Ráckeve Danube branch. It is surrounded by Dunavarsány, Bugyi, Kiskunlacháza, Áporka and Majosháza.
It can be reached from the Józsefváros Railway Station by train or by Volán bus from the Népliget station in Budapest and by car on the M0 highway or the main road No 51.
After the expulsion of the Turks, the king gave it away to landowners as a grant.  This place was the burial-ground for the Jeszenszky family. The Piróth family’s castle, which was built in the 19th century, now is a protected local architectural treasure.  In the outskirts of the village there is a protected – 500 years old – wild pear tree.

The village acclaimed its autonomy in 1949. On its territory 12 gravel-mining lakes can be found. Some of them are surrounded by summer houses. The lakes are available for swimming, fishing and various other aquatic sports. Here is the first nudist beach and camping site in the country.
The whole village has a system of all public utilities. There are several camping sites and accommodations in the village. In the Szabadság (Freedom) square in front of the castle are the beautiful orthodox and catholic churches. Every year on the third weekend of June the “Délegyháza Days” are held here, where non-stop events on the sporting-ground and the outdoor stage entertain tourists for two days.  During this event, the mayor gives out some medals and awards and welcomes the newborn babies. The event is varied by sport competitions, quizzes, exhibitions, a fun-fair and some fireworks.
A fair is held on the 3rd weekend of September.
