One of the best places for fishing on the Danube, the village’s backwater area is filled with willows and reeds.  In the outskirts of the village historical artifacts and a graveyard have been found from the bronze-era. Stone axes, grinders, snapped stone blade, arrows and the remnants of a fireplace were found here. These items certainly provide evidence that this region has been occupied for a long time. Roman money was also found here from the 2-3rd century.  The first document mentioning the village is from 1238 with the name of Cséptelek. The Serbs living here built their own Serbian Orthodox church in 1736. The Catholic Germans built their church in 1755. The Catholic parsonage was built a hundred years afterwards.
At the time of the census ordered by King József II, Mária Terézia’s daughter, Princess Krisztina owned the land. At the turn of the 20th century Szigetcsép was a part of Ráckeve estate. Nowadays many inhabitants say that they have Serbian or German ancestors.
